Pampers was founded by Vic Mills in 1961. He was though to be one of the people who have started the industry 1for disposable diapers. During those times, only cloth diapers were used and would cause a great problem for parents and caregivers for children since they have to change them for some time and wash the cloth diapers, which is quite inconvenient. Working for Procter and Gamble for years, Mills had quite an idea how to create a great product. With the help of some researchers, he was able to create a disposable diaper that will not leak. It was formally introduced and sold to the public by Procter and Gamble 1961 after years if research and development. When the product was introduced it single handedly eliminated the need to have cloth diapers.

When Pampers was launched by Proctor and Gamble, there was only one size and they were heavier and bulkier than today. Through the years, different types of absorbent materials were introduced and different sizes of diapers were also made available to the public. Even though they are known by their different names in Europe and some parts of Asia, they could be classified into three: for infants, toddlers and young kids. Depending on the weight of the child, there’s a specific type of product that was specifically created for that line. Sometimes, there are more than one Pampers products that could cater for the specific weight group but they are classified with the difference in design. Pampers also developed disposable training pants. These are products that cater to older kids who are in their potty training. They are also differentiated by weight of the kid instead of their waistline. There are also baby wipes that carries the brand name of Pampers. The come in different names in different countries.

One of the products of Pampers that have gained national attention is their largest diaper – Pampers Baby Dry Size 6. These products cater to the need of some kids who still needs diapers even when they reach the age of two. It was argued by Proctor and Gamble (the mother company) that there are still toddlers who are not ready to be potty trained even when they reach two years old. There are even parents who still use this size for kids who just started school to prevent bedwetting. Even adults with minor incontinence use this Pamper product.

The name Pampers is already known worldwide. Pampers concentrate their market in North America and various parts of Asia. In Japan, Pampers even created their own line of mascots in Japan composed of family and a dog. In India and other East Asian companies, Pampers is also represented by an Elephant.

Pampers, under Proctor and Gamble continues to expand their market to other countries. Their extensive use of advertisement, appearing in movies billboards and use of pediatricians recommending their product are some of the tools they use to capture not only the market in the United States but across countries at the same time.
