In 1946, Leo Koltun designed a playpen using only cotton batting and oilcloth covers as cushions. World War II just ended and business is starting to pick up. But it was in 1949 that Koltun properly established his company. He was credited to be the inventor of the all-around crib. He also developed playard bumper pads along with the renowned crib. The invention immediately became a hit. Riding in this success, they developed other products for babies. They eventually expanded to mattresses. After decades in the business and series of new products, Kolcraft became the leader in the world of baby products with their extensive line up of products during the 90s.

Since its elevated, the infant could fall hard and will be injured. Since the restraint strap and the changing area is found in all the playards of the Kolcraft, the company was forced to recall more than 400,000 playards. Consumers who have this product could either return the product or request for repair kit for the playards. Even though the incident only involves one variety, all the playards have the same feature so consumers have to return or request for a repair kit for their playards.

Because of this unfortunate event, the company is taking safety very seriously. Even though it’s quite inconvenient for some parents, they have to ensure that the product they purchased is safe and up to the standards of the company’s guidelines. They really don’t want another event like this to happen. It could have been the end of the company if they didn’t act on the recall immediately.

Even though this has happened to the company, Kolcraft still remains to be the leader in other products.
