When Graco was established, the main products of the company were machine and car parts. The products were created to cater to the need of local shops in Philadelphia where the company was established. That company was established by Russell Gray and Robert Cone. Thus the name Graco which is a combination of their last names. The company had a little problem with development as they only cater to local manufacturers. The company stayed on for eleven years staring in 1942 while going through these problems in expansion. But in 1953, Cone left company and Graco stopped producing these types of products. After some thought, and input of some friends, Gray decided to create the world’s first wind-up infant swing. Called the Graco Swyngomatic, Graco was officially in the baby products business.

Aside from swings and others toys for children, Graco has expanded their business to other types of products – particularly to products that will give comfort to babes while sitting down among the adults (such as high chairs). Aside from swings, the company now produces seats for car and home, diaper bags, jumpers, strollers and even baby monitors. These products come in different sizes, which can also be adjusted by the parents to give full comfort for the children. They also specialize for baby products for travel: strollers, cribs and highchairs that you can take anywhere. Some of their products also come with Disney Logo and characters such as Winnie the Pooh and Baby Einstein.

The company has concentrated their work in this line of products for decades. With their dedication, not only they become nationally recognized, they are also able to introduce products that have placed their name among the best producers of baby products. During the 90s Nate Saint, the son of the company’s original engineer David saint, crossed the stroller and a car seat. The result is the Travel System – the first one in the world. The Travel System’s chair can be used as part of the stroller while at the same time, the chair can just be transferred to the car and make it as a car seat for babies. As the first to create this type of product, it’s one of the most popular and highly demanded products of the company every year.

Another effect of the company’s invention of the car seat/stroller for babies, the company bought the Century Car Seat Company. The year after they bough the company, Graco was also bought by Newell Rubbermaid in 1999. The company still uses the same logo to keep the tradition and familiarity of the product. When the company was purchased by Newell Rubbermaid, Graco products are already the household name when it comes to seats related to infants and toddlers.

Since its foundation, Graco was always finding ways to introduce their wares to the international market. As they are now under a bigger group, the Newell Rubbermaid, they are able to introduce their products to Canada and then the company moved to some of the countries in Asia and Europe.
