Baby Bjorn

Baby Bjorn was established in 1961 by Bjorn Jackobson with her sister-in-law Elsa. The company started small in Sweden selling convenient Baby Sitters. The sitter is a concept made by Bjorn Jakobson as a way of giving comfort and safety for the children she’s taking care of. The simplistic design was not welcomed at first but after reviews by local doctors, the Baby Sitter became a hit. It was through their local malls that the Bjorn baby sitter became famous and the brand Baby Bjorn was established. Today Baby Bjorn is still a family owned business that has worked its way to the international market.

Instead of concentrating only in Baby Sitters, Baby Bjorn has extended their product line to various baby products. The company differentiates them in three ways: Mobility, Kitchen and Bathroom. Their products for mobility have the most extensive list of items for sale. It’s in this category you’ll be able to see the new Baby Sitter. The original was dropped from the product line in 1996 and it was only in 2002 the product was again introduced to the market. Their famous Baby Carriers, introduced in the 80’s is also found in this category. There are three types of carriers to choose from. The original design, the active design for increased mobility and the air design for a more comfortable look for the babies. They also make travel cribs, diaper packs, changing bags and even baby bibs. Their Kitchen lines are basically toddlers’ utensils and baby boosters. Their Bathroom lines are toilet training products for toddlers. These additional products were created to cater the need of baby products worldwide. After extensive research and the product testing, these products were released to the market with great confidence.

Like most of the baby companies, they also issued some recalls for some of their products. The first recall was in 1999. The original baby carrier was issued without any straps or buttons to lock in the baby. As a result, babies reported to have slipped from the baby carriers, resulting to injuries. The next recall was another baby carrier on the Active version. The lumbar support’s buckle doesn’t have enough strength to support the baby. Baby Bjorn updated the product by adding 4 screws and two straps to ensure it strength. Lastly is the feeding spoon of Baby Bjorn. The recall was issued in 2006 since the end of the spoon is only an attachment. Toddlers may be able to detach the end of the spoon while eating, causing them to choke in the process.

Aside from being available in the US, Baby Bjorn has expanded not only North American but in other European countries as well. They also have different product lines available in the Asian and South American market. Even in Australia, Baby Brjorn is also an acknowledged brand for toddlers and babies.
